👥 Lone Heroes vs. The Dynamic Trio: Meet the Team Behind A Newman Adventure

Classic thrillers often rely on the lone James Bond or Indiana Jones archetype, but when I sat down to write my stories, I found myself leaning in a completely different direction: a distinct, high-tension team dynamic.
Today, I thought I would pull back the curtain and talk about the core characters who drive A Newman Adventure.
The series is, of course, named after Cedric Newman. Don't ask me why I chose the name Cedric in the first place; it simply popped into my head, it stuck, and I stayed with it! Sometimes as a Pantser, you don’t have a grand, intricate reason for every detail—a name arrives, it feels right, and you just roll with it.
But who are the people behind the adventures? I've broken down their traits and personalities below. If you've read An Irish Mystery or An American Treasure, let me know in the comments if you think I've nailed their dynamic!
💥 Cedric Newman: The Instinct & The Muscle
- The Role: The Adventurer & Catalyst
- The Persona: Wealthy, confident, and unapologetically driven by instinct.
Cedric is the engine that pulls the team into every high-stakes scrape. He isn’t an academic sitting quietly in a library; he is a man of action who would rather charge through the front door and deal with the fallout later. Beneath that impulsive, high-octane lifestyle, however, is a man defined by fierce loyalty. He takes personal responsibility for the people around him, and once he sets his sights on recovering a lost piece of history—whether it’s the Irish Crown Jewels, Confederate gold, or a vanished $100 million Bugatti—stopping him is nearly impossible.
📊 Daniela Fischer: The Brains & The Skeptic
- The Role: The Financial Analyst & Strategist
- The Persona: Sharp, elegant, analytical, and impossible to fool.
Standing at five feet eight with waist-length raven-black hair, Daniela is a German-American financial analyst fluent in both English and German. She didn't join the team looking for thrilling escapades—she entered the picture furious with Cedric, blaming him entirely for her brother Hans ending up behind bars.
Daniela is the ultimate counterweight to Cedric's impulsiveness. Where Cedric relies on gut feeling and speed, Daniela breaks down the numbers, follows the financial paper trail, and spots the logistical traps before they spring. Watching her evolve from cool, guarded professionalism into a formidable front-line partner taking the reins in Book 3 (An Atlantic Shadow) has been one of the absolute highlights of writing this series.
🛠️ Hans Fischer: The Anchor & The Logistics
- The Role: The Fixer & Right-Hand Man
- The Persona: Methodical, reliable, and deeply protective of family.
Hans was the backbone of Books 1 and 2. As Cedric’s original partner-in-crime and Daniela’s brother, Hans handled the heavy lifting, the groundwork, and the practical execution of their hunts. He’s the steady bridge between Cedric’s wild ambition and Daniela’s calculated caution. Even when circumstances in Book 3 force him to take a well-deserved back seat for part of the journey, his presence and the familial loyalty he inspires remain the vital glue holding Cedric and Daniela together.
🧩 Why a Trio Beats a Solo Hero
I never actually set out with a master plan to build an ensemble treasure-hunting team.
Originally, Cedric was just going to be the wealthy figure funding the expeditions, while Hans and Cedric’s other go-to operatives, John and Joe, were going to be the boots on the ground doing the legwork.
Daniela was introduced simply because the story needed a strong female presence, and she was the ideal fit for that role in Book 1. But as the pages piled up, I realised that writing a trio creates far more interesting dialogue, natural friction, and clever problem-solving than a lone-wolf protagonist ever could. They bounce off one another, challenge each other's assumptions, and make every victory feel genuinely earned.
📈 August Milestones: Sales, KU, and Blog Traffic!
August turned out to be one of my strongest months yet—the kind of month where you genuinely feel the momentum building behind your work.
The trick in the indie author game is that you can never afford to get complacent. Over the last couple of months, I’d been hitting over 3,000 page reads on Kindle Unlimited, but direct book orders were hovering just below ten for the month.
I decided to set myself a clear target for August: one book sale every other day (15 sales for the month). Yes, I know August has 31 days, but 15 felt like a great milestone to aim for!
Well, I woke up on Sunday morning to a wonderful surprise. I had sold 4 books on the Friday alone, pushing me past my goal to 17 sales. By Tuesday, that number had climbed even further to 19!
Page reads on Kindle Unlimited were slightly down this month with An Irish Mystery being the only book read with 946 page reads, which is exactly why you have to keep pushing and trying new marketing angles. But going from the odd sporadic sale to three consecutive months of double-figure sales feels brilliant.
To top it all off, this blog completely smashed my usual targets. Normally, I aim for around 100 views a day (roughly 3,000 to 3,100 views a month). This August, we blew right past the 5,000 mark, finishing the month on an incredible 5416 views!

Evil in High Places by Rory Clements
I’ve spent the last week grabbing every spare minute at the desk to dive into Evil in High Places by Rory Clements, and I have to say, I am thoroughly enjoying it!
I’m about twenty chapters in now, and it certainly hasn't disappointed. Set in the summer of 1936, the story unfolds against the tense, deceptive backdrop of the Berlin Olympic Games, where the Nazi regime is desperate to project an image of modern elegance to the wider world while hiding the brutal reality lurking just beneath the surface.
The blend of meticulous historical research and gripping fiction is executed superbly. Rory Clements does a masterful job capturing the paranoia, political double-dealing, and moral ambiguity of pre-war Europe. If you love immersive historical espionage, atmospheric period thrillers, and stories where uncovering one dark secret puts a target squarely on the protagonist's back, this is definitely one to add to your reading list.
I’m completely hooked and can't wait to see where the investigation leads as the tension ramps up!
