📚 What Does an Adventure Author Read?

 By D.C. Salmon

Who enjoys reading? I thought I’d share some books that I have enjoyed over the last few months. I’m a man in my late 40s—believe me, I don't know where those years have gone, but here we are getting closer to 50 every day!

I love action, adventure, and history. Most books I pick up are within those genres. So, if you like a full-on, action-packed book or a historical thriller, check out what I’ve been reading lately. Some you can even pick up for free on Kindle!

🏛️ For the History Buffs

The Berlin Wife by Marion Kummerow

This is a powerful historical novel that offers a compelling look at life in Berlin as the Nazi party rose to power. The story centres on two non-Jewish German wives married to Jewish men, skillfully illustrating how the tightening noose of Hitler's laws affected people across the class spectrum. The author does an excellent job portraying the extraordinary courage required by these women. A must-read for fans of WWII historical fiction.

Stone of Fire by J.F. Penn

I really enjoyed this; it had great "Steve Berry vibes" throughout. There is plenty of actionand mystery as Morgan Sierra hunts for the relics of the early church. I personally didn't know a lot about the Apostles before reading this, so the educational aspect was a nice bonus. A solid 4 stars for a fun adventure.

🕵️‍♂️ Gripping Mysteries & Thrillers

The Cleopatra Cipher by L.D. Goffigan

I really enjoyed this book. It’s exactly the kind of story I love to read—and write—where treasures lost to time are brought back to life. The Author’s Note at the end was particularly inspiring; it’s actually made me decide to start adding similar "Fact vs Fiction" notes to my own books!

Everybody Lies by L.J. Breedlove

The opening hooked me straight away. It follows Candace, who flees to Alaska only to find her abusive husband dead in her room. There is definitely enough in the book to keep you guessing. The author is highly descriptive and keeps you firmly rooted in the characters' perspective. I will absolutely be picking up Book 2. Well done, L.J. Breedlove!

🔫 High-Octane Action & Espionage

Any Means Necessary by Jack Mars

This is the third book by Jack Mars that I have read, and he is slowly starting to become my favourite author! This is exactly what I look for in a thriller: fast-paced, action-packed, and full of twists. I really liked the main character, Luke Stone. Highly recommend this for thriller fans.

Rogue Force & Rogue Command by Jack Mars

These are absolutely my kind of books: action, adventure, and relentless pace! They bring to mind the high-octane thrillers of Jason Statham or Tom Cruise. While the plot might be a bit far-fetched for some, I personally love this type of story. If you are looking for pure, unadulterated action, this Troy Stark series is one you need to start.

⚡ Short & Sharp

The Last Dive by Douglas Pratt

I really enjoyed this short story; it was action-packed and full-throttle from the very outset. It even mentions Clive Cussler, who is one of my favourite authors! It’s written in the first person, but the style is so engaging it didn't bother me one bit. A well-deserved 5 stars.
